Enessa Carbone proudly serves as Oneida County's 17th Comptroller, having been sworn into office on January 1, 2024. A native of Utica, New York, with deep roots spanning across Oneida County, Enessa embodies a profound commitment to her community, underscored by her extensive background in law, business, and public service.
Education and Early Career
Enessa's academic journey is marked by excellence. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Policy Studies/Criminal Justice from Syracuse University's esteemed Maxwell School of Citizenship, a Juris Doctor with a concentration in mergers and acquisitions from Georgetown University Law Center, and a Master's in Business Administration from the Rochester Institute of Technology, graduating in the top 10 percent of her class and earning induction into the Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society. Additionally, Enessa is a graduate of the Dealer Academy of the National Automobile Dealers Association, further enhancing her expertise in corporate operations.
Her professional journey began in Manhattan with Wood Dawson Smith and Hellman, focusing on municipal bonds, before she transitioned to Dechert Price and Rhoades in Princeton, New Jersey, where she played a pivotal role in developing business models for continuing care retirement communities.
Return to Utica and Leadership in Business
In 1991, Enessa made the significant decision to return to Oneida County, embracing a key role as In-House Counsel for the Carbone Auto Group. Her leadership saw the successful consolidation of family-owned dealerships under Don-Al Management, enhancing corporate synergy and efficiency. Rising through the ranks, Enessa's vision and drive culminated in her appointment as CEO, where, together with her brother Joe and cousin Alex, led the group to new heights, eventually overseeing its strategic multi-milion dollar sale to Lithia Motors, Inc.
Commitment to Community
A testament to her unwavering dedication to Oneida County, Enessa has been a staunch advocate for various local causes. From spearheading initiatives with Upstate Cerebral Palsy to introduce life-altering autism treatment programs, to her involvement in the annual United Way campaign and the creation of the statewide Ride for Missing Children, her contributions are manifold. Enessa has also led over 100 participants yearly in the American Heart Association Team, demonstrating her commitment to community health and wellbeing.

Enessa's impactful work has not gone unnoticed. She is a recipient of numerous awards, including the YWCA's Salute to Outstanding Women Award, the 40 Under 40 Accent on Excellence Award, the Leading EDGE Award for her contributions to local economic development, and the distinguished New York State Woman of Distinction Award presented by Senator Joe Griffo.
