A fox has tested positive for rabies in Rome. The fox was sent to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center for testing on November 13, 2024, and positive results were reported on November 14, 2024. There were exposures to the fox.

A bat has tested positive for rabies in Utica. The bat was sent to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center for testing on October 28, 2024 and positive results were reported on November 1, 2024. One person was exposed to the bat and received post exposure prophylaxis.
Oneida County to Provide Free Car Seat Safety Checks
The Oneida County Health Department will be providing free car seat safety checks at the Oneida County
Public Market on Sept. 21 as part of National Car Seat Check Saturday.
The checks will be offered in partnership with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the
Oneida County Public Market located at 321 Main Street, Utica.
Kitten Tests Positive for Rabies in Sauquoit
A kitten has tested positive for rabies in Sauquoit. The kitten was sent to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center for testing on September 12, 2024 and positive results were reported on September 13, 2024. Four people were exposed to this kitten and received post exposure prophylaxis.
Oneida County Health Department Announces Upcoming Rabies Vaccination Clinic
The Oneida County Health Department (OCHD) announced today that it has scheduled a rabies vaccination clinic on October 17, 2024 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Town of Trenton Offices.
Appointments are required for the clinic and can be made by calling 315-798-5064 or online at oneidacountyny.gov/rabies. A $10 donation per pet is requested to help with costs. The following guidelines apply:
- Per NYS Public Health Law, all dogs, cats and ferrets must be vaccinated by four months old. Dogs and cats need another dose at age one and then receive a booster dose every three years following. Ferrets must receive booster doses annually.
- Pets will receive a one-year certificate if no prior proof of rabies vaccination is shown.
- Dogs need to be on a leash and cats need to be in a carrier or laundry basket.
Mobile Vaccination Clinic Offered in Camden
Oneida County Health Department, along with Camden School District, is setting up a mobile vaccination clinic to offer vaccines to school-aged children.
The event will take place at Camden High School, 55 Oswego St, Camden on September 14th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for grades K-12 who attend Camden School District.
