Sexually Transmitted Infections

Sexually Transmitted Infections

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs), are infections that are passed from one person to another through sexual contact. Anyone who is sexually active could get a STI. Precautions can be taken in order to protect yourself from STIs including vaccination, monogamy, use of condoms and testing. Many STIs can be easily diagnosed and treated. If either you or your partner is infected, both of you need to receive treatment at the same time to avoid getting re-infected.

HIV

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) weakens a person’s immune system by destroying important cells that fight disease and infection. Currently, there is no cure, but treatment is available and with proper medical care, HIV can be controlled.

Oneida County Health Department Clinic Services partners with Planned Parenthood for STI, and HIV testing and treatment services. All services are available at Planned Parenthood Utica Center. Call 315-724-6146 to book an appointment or visit their website Planned Parenthood for more information.
