4th Annual Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up

The award winning 4th Annual Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up, collaboration between Oneida County Youth Bureau, the Oneida County Office for the Aging and continuing Care, Oneida County colleges, school districts and youth organizations, had 500 youth volunteers deliver general yard clean-up services to 100 senior citizen locations county-wide.

“The success of our Annual Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up is a direct result of our dedicated, committed and hard-working youth volunteers and their mentors,” Oneida county Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr. said. “Our Oneida County senior citizens, who no longer can physically do the work or financially afford to have the work done for them, have benefitted tremendously from their volunteer efforts. They continue to remind us that there is good in our youth, in our world and Oneida County is a special place to live.”

The 500 remarkable youth volunteers represented the following colleges, school districts and youth organizations; Hamilton College’s Women’s Basketball Team,  Women’s Golf Team and Men’s Basketball Team, Utica College’s Circle K Club, Physical Therapist Society, GNT-101 Introduction to Aging Class, Women’s Softball Team, Men’s Golf Team, Men’s Baseball Team and Women’s Lacrosse Team, Mohawk Valley Community College’s Latino Student Union, GEAR-UP Club, Returning Adult Student Association, Welders Among Communities, Black Student Union and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Pratt MWP, Proctor High School’s Key Club, Best Buddies Program, Young Scholars Program and Youth Construction Initiative Program, Upstate Cerebral Palsy Utica Campus, Upstate Cerebral Palsy Rome Campus, Notre Dame High School’s Boys’ Basketball Team and National Honor Society, VVS Central High Schools Interact Club and National Honor Society, Camden Central High School’s athletes and coaches, Clinton Central High School’s Field Hockey Team, Sauquoit Valley Central High School’s National Honor Society, Remsen Central High School’s Girls’ Soccer Team, Oriskany Central High School’s Football Team, the Slavic Pentecostal Youth Organization, The House of the Good Shepherd, The Underground Café, Utica Municipal Housing Authority, John Bosco House and Boy Scout Troop 21 Revolutionary Trails Council.

“I have been honored and extremely fortunate to have met and worked with these incredible young men and women and their mentors,” Youth Bureau Director Bob Roth said. “I’m constantly amazed at their willingness to help, their work ethic, their wonderful, upbeat personalities and their unparalleled commitment to community,” Roth added.

The 5th Annual Intergenerational Spring Clean-Up is scheduled for the weekend of Saturday April 20th and Sunday April 21st, 2013.
