13th Annual Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up

The 13^th Annual Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up, collaboration between the Oneida County Youth Bureau, the Oneida County Office for the Aging and Continuing Care, Oneida County colleges, school districts and youth organizations had 535 youth volunteers deliver general yard clean-up services to 85 senior citizen locations county-wide.

“The success of our Annual Intergenerational Fall and Spring Clean-Ups is a direct result of our dedicated, committed and hardworking youth volunteers and their mentors,” Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr. said. Picente added, “Our Oneida County senior citizens, who no longer can physically do the work or financially afford to have the work done for them, have benefitted tremendously from this initiative and its volunteers efforts. They continue to remind us that there is good in our youth, in our world and Oneida County is a special place to live.”

The 535 remarkable youth volunteers were representatives of the following Oneida County colleges, school districts and youth organizations.

• Utica University: Baseball, Field Hockey, Theta Phi Alpha, Chi Beta Sigma, Alpha Chi Rho, Organization of Justice Studies, Women’s Soccer, Softball, Women’s Lacrosse, Track & Field, Health Science Student Society, Kappa Delta Phi NAS, Alpha Phi Delta and Wrestling
• Mohawk Valley Community College: Phi Theta Kappa and Softball
• Boys Scout Troop 21: Ed Gunn
• New Hartford: Perry Jr. HS, E.R. Hughes Elementary and NH 13U Baseball
• Utica Academy of Science Charter School: Kaitlyn Rose
• Clinton: Middle School Student Council and National Junior Honor Society
• Proctor High School: Key Club and Young Scholars Program
• Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School: Interact Club
• New York Mills Union Free School: Student Council
• Notre Dame High School: Various Volunteers
• Camden High School: Girls Modified Soccer
• Whitesboro: Marcy Elementary/Marcy PTO
• Sauquoit National Honor Society: National Honor Society
• Utica Post 229: Various Volunteers
• Pisani Family: Various Volunteers

“With the outpouring of support given by our youth and the supportive number of youth volunteers represented these kids see the big picture,” Director of the Youth Bureau Kevin Green said.  Green added, “compassion for those in need, caring enough to do the work, and bringing joy to others are three characteristics these 535 youth volunteers brought to Oneida Counties senior citizen population.”   

The 2024 Intergenerational Spring Clean-Up is scheduled for Saturday April 27^th and Sunday April 28^th and the 2024 Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up is scheduled for Saturday October 19^th  and Sunday October 20^th. Any Oneida County colleges, school districts and youth organizations interested in volunteering should contact the Oneida County Youth Bureau at 315-798-5027. Any senior citizen interested in having their yard cleaned should contact the Oneida County Office for the Aging and Continuing Care at 798-5456.
