2013 Stop DWI High School Baseball Classic
The 2nd Annual STOP DWI High School Baseball Classic hosted by the Oneida County Youth Bureau and Oneida County STOP DWI will be held Friday April 26th and Saturday April 27th at DeLutis Field in Rome. The Classic will run in conjunction with STOP DWI’S Annual Teen Traffic Safety Education Program. The Teen Traffic Safety Education Program is presented to Oneida County high school students annually, prior to the ball and prom season. The Classic, an educational event, gives us the ability to expand our mission; making youth aware of the consequences that result from making destructive decisions, by reaching more families and other youth where the Teen Traffic Safety Education Program isn’t presented.
Last year’s inaugural event was attended by over 1,500 people. Those attendees and the players and coaches from the participating teams took advantage of the outstanding presentations that were made by our partners; the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Oneida County STOP DWI, New York State Police, New York State Department of Transportation, Insight House and Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES-CORE, all who will present again, at this year’s Classic. The National Baseball Hall of Fame will have a presence at this year’s Classic. They will provide educational literature on their Be A Superior Example (BASE) Program. Literature form Derek Jeter’s “Turn 2” Foundation; Derek Jeter’s All-Star Manual/10 Life Lessons will be available at the event.
Admission to the Classic is free and every adult will receive a bag filled with educational materials to be shared at home with their family. The Classic will feature 10 area high school baseball teams representing all of New York State’s high school classes; AA, A, B, C and D. The 2013 Classic will feature 7 new teams and after this year 16 of the 18 Oneida County high schools will have played in the event. All the games will be broadcast live on local ESPN Radio affiliates; 1310 AM and 99.1 FM.
We’d like to extend a special thank you to our sponsors; AAA Western and Central New York, Don’s Ford Superstore, Excellus, New York Dough Company, First Source Federal Credit Union, Northern Safety, Mohawk Valley Community College, Tents Plus Party Rentals, Coca-Cola, ESPN Radio, My Hometown Sports and The Fitness Mill. This event would not be possible without their sponsorship.
