2014 Stop DWI High School Baseball Classic
The 3rd Annual STOP DWI High School Baseball Classic hosted by the Oneida County Youth Bureau and Oneida County STOP DWI will be held Friday April 25th and Saturday April 26th at Murnane Field at Donovan Stadium in Utica. The Classic will run in conjunction with STOP DWI’S Annual Teen Traffic Safety Education Program. The Teen Traffic Safety Education Program is presented to Oneida County high school students annually, prior to the ball, prom and graduation season. The Classic, an educational event, gives us the ability to expand our mission; to educate youth and families about the terrible consequences that result when people make destructive decisions.
The previous two Classics were attended by 3,300 people. Last year the attendees and the players and coaches from the participating teams took advantage of the outstanding presentations that were made by our partners; the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Oneida County STOP DWI, the New York State Police, the New York State Department of Transportation, Insight House, Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES-CORE, the Oriskany High School SADD Chapter and the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Literature from Derek Jeter’s “Turn 2” Foundation; Derek Jeter’s All-Star Manual/10 Life Lessons was given to attendees as well.
The Oneida County Health Department and New Hartford High School’s Project Purple will join the above mentioned partners and present at this year’s event.
Admission to the Classic is free and every adult will receive a bag filled with educational materials to be shared at home with their family. The Classic will feature ten (10) Oneida County high school varsity baseball teams representing all of New York State’s high school classes; AA, A, B, C and D.
We’d like to extend a special thank you to our sponsors, who, without their commitment this event would not be possible; AAA New York, Don’s Ford Superstore, Excellus, Adjuster’s International, First Source Federal Credit Union, IBEW, Mohawk Valley Community College, Northern Safety, Spano’s Bakery, Coca-Cola, Cooperstown Bat Company and Tents Plus Party Rentals.
