Holiday Season DWI Enforcement Campaign Underway
The Oneida County STOP-DWI Program announced today that police agencies throughout the County are participating in a special enforcement effort to address the issue of impaired driving during the holiday season.
"With the holiday season upon us, the Oneida County STOP-DWI Program is proud to partner with our dedicated local police agencies to ensure our roads are safe for everyone,” said Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. “This enforcement campaign is about protecting lives and preventing the devastating consequences of impaired driving. We urge all residents to celebrate responsibly—don't drink and drive. Together, we can make this holiday season one of joy and safety for our entire community."
The Holiday Season High Visibility Enforcement Campaign kicked off on Dec. 11, 2024 and runs through Jan. 1, 2025.
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, New York Mills Police Department, Rome Police Department Utica Police Department, New Hartford Police Department and Yorkville Police Department are partnering in the campaign.
“The holiday season is a busy travel time and with more people on the roadways, the potential for incidents increases,” said Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol. “With friends and families gathering to celebrate, remember alcohol-related incidents are 100% preventable. Have a plan. If you choose to drink, do not drive.”
The Oneida County STOP-DWI program received $35,000 from the New York State STOP-DWI Foundation through a grant from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee to fund this and other High Visibility Enforcement Campaigns through September 2025.
