Oneida County Employees Donate Truckload of Supplies and $1,600 to Connected Community Schools

Oneida County employees once again demonstrated their commitment to the community by participating in a school supply drive in partnership with Connected Community Schools.
“Oneida County employees have once again shown their incredible generosity and community spirit,” said Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. “By coming together, they not only provided a truckload of supplies for children across our county, but also raised funds to extend that impact even further. Their efforts will ensure that students have the resources they need to thrive in the classroom, and I am extremely proud of their commitment to supporting our families and schools.”
County employees who contributed school supplies or a $5 donation were given the opportunity to dress down for the week of Aug. 18-22. Their generosity resulted in a truckload of supplies being delivered to Connected Community Schools in Rome, where they were distributed during the organization’s Back-to-School Bash on August 20.
Thirteen local school districts benefitted from the donations, ensuring that children throughout the county started the school year with the tools they need to succeed. In addition to the supplies, County employees also contributed $1,600 in monetary donations, which Connected Community Schools will use to purchase even more items for local students in need.
“We are so thankful to Oneida County and its employees for their incredible contributions,” said Melissa Roys, Co-Executive Director Connected Community Schools. “Because of their generosity, children across the County will walk into the first day of school prepared and confident. The Back-to-School Bash was an absolutely impactful day for our Connected Districts, bringing together families, schools and over 50 community partners in a powerful show of collaboration. In total, more than 2,500 individuals were served, making the Bash not only a resourceful event, but also a true celebration of what’s possible when our community comes together for students and families.”
