Picente: County Purchased 32,724 American Flags For Memorial Day

Flags Are Distributed to 41 locations and placed at gravesites throughout the county
Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. announced that for Memorial Day Oneida County purchased 32,724 12”x18” Flags that were distributed to over 40 locations throughout the County and placed at Veteran’s Gravesites in cemeteries all throughout the County. All flags were made in America at a total cost of $19,184.76 through the Oneida County Department of Veteran’s Services.
County Executive Picente said “Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for all of those that gave what Lincoln called the Last Full Measure of Devotion. We honor them by placing flags at their gravesites and every Veteran’s gravesite every Memorial Day. It is the least we as a community can give to those who gave all.”
The American Flags are given to each location upon request and then each location gathers 100’s of volunteers to place the flags at gravesites. For any who want to assist in the local flag placement, next year, they can call your local cemetery to find ways to get involved. Any Cemetery, municipality or Veteran’s Organization looking to place flags at gravesites where it is not already being done can call the Department of Veteran’s Services at (315) 336-4270 or 315-798-5830.
