The NYS Department of Health has adopted emergency regulations to prevent the spread of Legionella bacteria as a result of an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease in NYC. Cooling towers were implicated as the source of this outbreak.

Residents are invited to participate in a public health emergency preparedness POD (Point of Distribution) exercise at MVCC Jorgensen Athletic and Event Center (1101 Sherman Dr. Utica, NY) on Tuesday, September 1st, from 1:00 -2:30 pm Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr. announced today.

While your chances of being infected with a disease through a mosquito bite are very small, there are simple steps you can take to reduce your risk of being bitten.

The Oneida County Health Department announced today that the Village of Boonville won the 2015 Best Tasting Drinking Water Taste Test Contest. The contest was held at the Boonville-Oneida County Fair on Thursday July 30, 2015. The contest promotes awareness of the value of public drinking water to the public. The contest has been held throughout New York State for the past 20 years. Its goal is to enable the general public to become aware of the value and the quality of public tap water through a non-scientific and publicly involved competition.

The New York State Department of Health and the Oneida County Health Department are urging residents to avoid the
risk of rabies and rabies treatment by capturing and submitting for testing any bat found in their home that may have
had contact with humans or their pets.
