FAQs
How do I get a job with Oneida County?
By Applying! A simple online or paper application will kick start the process!
What do I need to apply?
Each position has its own minimum qualifications. Be sure to read the job posting to see what is required and be ready to provide any necessary documentation (i.e. Transcripts to verify a degree)
What is a Civil Service Exam?
Civil Service positions historically require applicants to complete a skill/experience test to be considered for a position. BUT thanks to NYHELPS, many of the County’s positions do not require the exam!
So, what is NYHELPS?
NYHELPS is a program that reclassified positions in the civil service in order to remove the Exam requirement for the position, to reduce the barrier of entry to civil service jobs.
Do I still have to take a test?
For some positions, yes. NYHELPS reclassified a good number of roles, but not all of them. Positions like Full Time Corrections, Deputy Sheriff Patrol, and Probation Officers still have exams tied to the position.
