Abstracts of Property
Abstracts "tell the story" of a property by using various legal documents and
chronologically outlining transfers of the property and other significant matters affecting
the property. This would include judgments/liens and other important factors. Abstracts
are prepared by private companies and not by the County Clerk's Office. Nor does the
County Clerk have access to Abstracts of Title Records. Typically, these documents are
given to the current homeowner at the time of the mortgage closing. Once someone has an
abstract of title document, they should safeguard the document. If you are unable to
locate your Abstract of Title and know what company prepared it, you can contact the
company to inquire on the process to obtain another copy. If you know the bank or
financial institution who held the mortgage, you can contact them to see if they can tell you
what abstract company updated the Abstract of Title last. Oneida County, NY has private
Abstract companies. Below is a list of some of the companies and their contact
information; please note this is not a complete list and the Oneida County Clerk’s office
does not show preference to any of the companies listed alphabetically below.
