Description
This is skilled work involving the repair and maintenance of a variety of heavy and/or automotive equipment which requires a thorough knowledge of the automotive trade. General instructions are received regarding individual jobs, permitting considerable leeway for planning the details of each assignment. The incumbent performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years of experience as a skilled automotive mechanic, which shall have involved repairs and maintenance of heavy automotive equipment*, or experience of a similar nature.
*Heavy automotive equipment refers to dump trucks, graders, bulldozers, rollers, shovels, cranes, tractors, snow loaders, etc.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid Class B or greater, CDL, without airbrake restriction at time of application and required for duration of appointment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ONEIDA COUNTY DPW ONLY:
- Possession of a valid Class B or greater, CDL, without airbrake restriction at time of application and required for duration of appointment; AND eligibility for NYS Heavy Motor Vehicle Inspection License at time of appointment and possession of NYS Heavy Motor Vehicle Inspection License within one (1) year from appointment date and maintained duration of appointment
- Certain assignments made to employees in this class will require access to transportation to meet field work requirements in a timely and efficient manner.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ONEIDA COUNTY AVIATION ONLY:
- Possession of a valid Class B or greater, CDL, without airbrake restriction at time of application and required for duration of appointment.
- Must successfully complete FAR Part 139 ARFF training within one (1) year of appointment.
- Eligibility for NYS Heavy Motor Vehicle Inspection License at time of appointment and possession of NYS Heavy Motor Vehicle Inspection License within one (1) year from appointment date and maintained duration of appointment.
- Must successfully complete the required training for certification in ARFF, CPR and First Aid within one (1) year of appointment and maintain certification throughout employment.
Notes
Verifiable part-time experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time requirements.
