Description

Employees in this class perform professional nursing duties in the care of patients or students in private homes, schools, clinics or in a skilled nursing facility.  Incumbents are responsible for maintaining acceptable health standards and providing continuing and/or emergency treatment for those under their care. Responsibilities also include the performance of diversified nursing duties in accordance with professional practices, special orders from physicians, and established rules and regulations.  This position differs from that of the certified position of School Nurse Teacher in that there is no responsibility for either classroom instruction or guidance involved.   The work is performed under the general supervision of a physician, or other administrative official, permitting the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work.  General supervision may be exercised over other non-professional and clerical employees.  The incumbent performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a current valid license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State at time of appointment.  This license must be maintained throughout appointment.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:  Possession of an appropriate level, valid Driver's License at time of appointment.  This license must be maintained throughout appointment.
