Awareness Raised as Part of Child Passenger Safety Week
As part of national Child Passenger Safety Week, Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. is urging parents to make sure their children are in the correct car seat and that it’s installed and used properly.
“This week is the perfect opportunity to remind parents to take a moment to ensure their kids are safely secured in any vehicle they ride in,” Picente said. “We need to be sure all children are riding as safely as possible, every trip, every time. Their lives could depend on it.”
Oneida County’s Garden Harvest to Benefit Nutrition Program
Free Vegetables Offered for August’s ‘Tasteful Tuesdays’
Oneida County is harvesting an abundance of fresh produce from garden boxes planted earlier this spring, and will be offering free vegetables to Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) eligible residents during “Tasteful Tuesdays” this August.
Three planter boxes located on the southwest side of the County Office Building in Utica were maintained since spring by volunteers in the Oneida County Employee Wellness Program. They are now yielding an abundant crop of vegetables including kale, cucumbers, zucchini, eggplant, beans, peas, arugula, radishes and tomatoes.

Oneida County Emphasizes Importance of Vaccinations
August is National Immunization Awareness Month, and Oneida County officials are reminding residents that vaccinations are not just for children. From babies to senior citizens, vaccinations can protect people of all ages from serious diseases.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), immunizations are one of the top 10 public health accomplishments of the 20th century. Vaccination is important because it not only protects the person receiving the vaccine, but also helps prevent the spread of diseases to others-especially those who are most vulnerable to serious complications, such as infants and young children, the elderly, and those with chronic conditions and weakened immune systems.
Village of Camden Wins Tap Water Taste Contest at Boonville-Oneida County Fair
The Oneida County Health Department announced today the Village of Camden won the 2019 Tap Water Taste Contest, which was held at the Boonville-Oneida County Fair on Tuesday, July 23, 2019. The contest promotes awareness of the value and quality of public drinking water, and has been held throughout New York State for many years.
Oneida County Releases Lead Poisoning Documentary
Stoplead.org Set Up as Resource Center
Oneida County has released a documentary highlighting the far-reaching and permanent effects of lead poisoning, calling the disease “the perfect predator” because it is silent, pervasive and right here in our local community.
The documentary can be viewed at the county’s new online resource center www.stoplead.org, which provides a wide range of information on lead poisoning prevention for residents, homeowners and contractors.
Oneida County Offers Extreme Heat Safety Tips
The Oneida County Health Department is reminding residents to take precautions during extreme hot weather.
Extreme heat can trigger heat-related illness or heat stroke, where the body is unable to control its temperature. Body temperature increases fast, the sweating mechanism fails and the body cannot cool down. The average person can overheat and get dehydrated easily in hot and humid weather.
