Oneida County Health Department Announces Upcoming Rabies Vaccination Clinics
The Oneida County Health Department (OCHD) announced today that it has scheduled five rabies vaccination clinics throughout the remainder of the year.
The events will take place:
• April 27, 2023 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Town of Trenton Offices
• June 12, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Annsville Highway Garag
• July 24, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Vienna Town Garage
• August 21, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Rome Kennedy Arena
• October 19, 2023 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Town of Trenton Offices
Raccoon Tests Positive for Rabies in Town of Whitestown
A raccoon that was captured near the Rayhill Walking Trail off Route 840 in the Town of Whitestown has tested positive for rabies. The raccoon was captured on Feb. 10, 2023 and sent to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center for testing. Positive results were reported on Feb. 14. If anyone was in the area during this time and believes they or their pet had contact with this raccoon, please contact the Oneida County Health Department at 315-798-5064.
Oneida County Health Department Urges Residents to Be Prepared for This Week’s Extreme Cold
With extremely low temperatures and wind chill expected to hit Oneida County by Friday, the Health Department is urging residents to be prepared.
“Being prepared is your best defense against extremely cold weather,” said Oneida County Director of Health Daniel W. Gilmore, Ph.D., MPH. “Prepare yourselves, your vehicles, and your homes. If you have outdoor pets, prepare now to provide them warm shelter and check in with elderly neighbors and relatives.”

Raccoon Tests Positive for Rabies in Town of Whitestown
A raccoon has tested positive for rabies in Town of Whitestown. The raccoon was sent to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center for testing and positive results were reported on December 30, 2022. One person was exposed to the raccoon and received post exposure prophylaxis. This raccoon was captured on December 28, 2022 in the town of Whitestown near the Rayhill walking trail off Rt. 840. If anyone was in the area during this time and believes they or their pet had contact with this raccoon, please contact the Oneida County Health Department at 315-798-5064.
Oneida County Health Department Raises Flu Vaccine Awareness
As Oneida County experiences one of its most active flu seasons in recent years, the Health Department is helping to raise awareness of flu vaccines as part of National Influenza Vaccination Awareness Week. Oneida County has already had almost 800 reported cases this season, a very high number at this point in the season compared to years’ past.
